6.0L Startup Question?
Hello all,
I am new to the forum and I am in the market for a F250 6.0L and I recently found a really clean 2005 with 158,000 that I am interested in purchasing. The one I found seems to have an interesting noise at start up and I did not know if I should not pursue this truck. Right after you start it, you hears a high pitch noise/air noise for like one second then all goes normal. You only hear it at start up and then never again. The truck runs find and makes boost, but I have never herd that noise before on any other 6.0's I have driven. I have searched a bit on this forum, but have not found exactly what I experience? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Alex |

Is it coming from the exhaust?
btw

I was not sure. I should have got out and had it start, but when sitting in the drivers seat you can hear it out from the passenger side.

It could be that the truck has a strategy that sweeps the vanes at start up on the turbo.
Do the injectors fire off when you turn the key on? |

I am pretty new to diesels so I am not sure. When the key is turned and glow plugs are warming. There are some ticking noise from the engine bay. I'm guessing that is them? Sorry for my inexperience on this.

Yes that are the injectors you hear ticking. My turbo cycles on and off at idle. Is it the turbo you hear or some other kind of high pitch noise or squeal? I'm trying to thin of another noise you should be hearing but I can't at the top of my head

It could be the fuel pump?? I've Hurd them hum or whine when the key is turned on. After its started you don't hear it. Mine did that for a while

All I really know is that it occurs after start up for like 1 second. Its hard to describe, but like i said it sounds like a wind/air hiss noise. I may just have to look at it again to better describe it.

Sounds like the turbo just spooling up. Mostly likely that's what it is and it's normal.
