03-04 injectors "louder" than 05-07?

Hey just kind of a random thing I have always wondered, did the 03-04 trucks have "louder" injectors than 05-07 because my 05 is loud straight piped but I know a couple of people with 03-04's straight piped and theirs are insanely loud. Does it depend on what stategy their running or just an 03-04 thing?

With hood up or down? The '03-04's had hood insulation to reduce noise, not that it helped much.

The early strategies for the '03-early '04's had pilot injection to quiet down the motor.

Hmmm they just seemed louder at WOT than the 05-07 but who knows if they have bigger injectors I'm sure that would make them louder too.

well for one the straight oil rail doesn't have the same acoustic dampening properties as the wavy rail. It may also fuel knock a little more due to the injector design. I agree that the earlies are definitely louder in the diesel sound department.

Pilot injection is a thing of the past. It requires all of the systems to be in top shape to work properly, we know that isn't always the case.

My 03 sounds like there is munchkin trapped inside the engine block trying to pound his way out with a miniature sledge hammer.


The injectors do knock quite a bit, Idk why but they do. I love the sound!!!

i have try to figure out why.. but dont find the reason...

My '04 sounds like the hammers of hell, and it has the wavy oil rail..............LOVE IT, sure intimidates the Duraturd crowd when you line up at a stoplight..........................THAT'S a DIESEL, SON!!!!!!

my -03 have straight oil rails.. and im kind of sure that the noise is coming from my injectors cause it goes away when tow/haul is on, foot of the pedal and engine brake is on..
the noise is louder when crusing very light foot ..

I love the sound of HEUI injectors. It's one of the things I loved about the Cat motor in my Peterbuilt.

The tune does have a lot to do with the sound of the injectors. I have noticed that Eric's tunes make more injector noise than any of the others I have run.

Yea my 05 is definitely loud but not as much as an 03-04. Hopefully that will change whenever I get injectors.
