AN OPINION PLEASE, STICK WITH THE 6.0 OR UPGRADE TO THE 6.4?
Hello from Down Under (Australia)
For business tax reasons, I can upgrade my 06 built 07 year model 6.0 King Ranch 4x4 Dually LWB CrewCab, loaded with goodies, to the 6.4 Twin Turbo about middle of next year........ But should I?What is the feel in America?? I hear it has less sensors, more mechanical cooling, and a great new interior.... But what is the feel in America? Step up or a step down??? Thank you from Oz... I have to stay current as about 100 of my Customers are towing Bushtracker Vans with the Fords.... |

I agree with Stump. You have a very nice rig. I'd wait another model year for them to work out any problems that may surface with the 6.4, and for aftermarket accessories to surface.

I had a similar decision to make. They had awesome rebates on the 2008 6.4s. I really liked the interior and tailgate step, but ultimately, I was scared off by the horrible fuel economy reported by so many people. You get the occasional person saying they get 18 MPG, but most are more like 9-13. Maybe in a couple years once the aftermarket makes an easy DPF delete kit and programmer to kill regen without voiding the warranty, I might consider the 6.4. Until then, I'll stick with my used 6.0.

Thank you all for your feedback...
What I hear here in OZ, is that a reprogramming and an exhaust change has fixed the fuel economy issue. And the ULSD here has lubricant additives such that it is not an issue and it is being Complianced as we speak... Will probably meet all Australian Emission requirements and the Fleet ready to market the mid 08's by Feb-March... I would be looking at a Mid 08 truck...I am not up on the local Mods to make that happen. More interested in the "Feel for it" from the much larger market place in America. The Techies here say more mechanical cooling and less sensors make for a more reliable engine... ??? But I don't know.I kind of think Stumpy's beginning of the Thread view of wait until the dust settles is good advice, but I am just fishing as the dollar exchange rate is in my favor by about $10,000 better off right now... Temptations mean Gambling, but the dollar rate is up in my favor and that drives me on... ![]() But thank all of you, and any that join the thread in advance... ![]() From Oz... |

Just keep in mind that the 6.4 can actually throw codes saying the truck has aftermarket modifications, and I haven't read where anybody has figured out how to reprogram the trucks without evidence of it. Ford will void your warranty for breathing wrong on these trucks. I want to wait to see what happens for a while before I step on the 6.4 bandwagon because I wouldn't be able to resist getting rid of that DPF crap as soon as I got the truck.

Oh,
And I might add, that my 06 built 07 model King Ranch 4x4 LWB DRW CC FX4, has been MARVELOUS !!! The motivation was tax related and do it cause you can sort of a thing... And to stay current... But my 6.0 has been GREAT! That is another reason to stay with the Devil you know.. 25,000 now on the clock and other than an alternator that was low on output (never seen that before either work or not, but half output?) which was cheerfully changed out... Other than that SHE HAS BEEN MARVELOUS!!! Thanks and regards to all from Oz... Ranger |
