Help! Delta Temps Making Me PARANOID!
I got my 04 6.0 last summer. I read up on them and started with a coolant flush. I also got a scangauge to monitor the temperatures. All winter long I was running 10 degrees difference. This spring took a trip through the mountains and hit 15degrees for a brief period, but ran about 12degrees different. A couple of weekends ago, it was really hot and we went to the beach. Had 15 degree difference for about 30 minutes. Yet today, 80 out and running errands in town, 8 degrees.
Just wondering is it about time for the bulletproofing? Or is this something I might be able to postpone for a while? I have 112k on the clock and everything is stock. |

Is your egr cooler deleted? If not I would be worried about flow resistance through the oil cooler, causing the egr cooler to rupture. Making a big ole mess

I'd start making preparations for a oil cooler rebuild at a minimum. For piece of mind, I'd get it rebuilt and your EGR solution installed sooner rather than later.
Even if your EGR cooler is deleted, you still have to worry about an oil cooler rupturing and causing the oil and coolant systems to cross contaminate. |

If he has an early model 04, he has the round EGR cooler and those had a VERY low failure rate (some experienced techs say almost zero).

Agreed, as for oil cooler rupturing, in all the oil cooler replacements and EGR cooler deletes I've had a hand in all I can say is I have only seen a leaking oil cooler once, but a crap load of the square version EGR cooler leakers.
