My Brother is looking at an '03 F250.
Hi all,
My Brother is looking at buying a 2003 F250 6.0L Crew Cab 4X4. The truck has 170k plus miles on it. He says the pickup appears to be in great shape. The independent dealer says it runs great and has an awesome exhaust system. I told him there are more important items to worry about besides the exhaust system. I mentioned a few like: 1) Has the EGR cooler been deleted or changed? And if it has been deleted or changed did the oil cooler also get changed. 2) How is the maintenance records? Oil changed regularly? Coolant? 3) Does it have studs or bolts? etc..etc. I know I have missed something and this forum has a wealth of expertise on these trucks. Please send me some of your thoughts for other things to look for. Thanks in advance for the help. Jim |

Check in the coolant overflow for any "milkshake" substance. It would be oil and coolant mixing equating to a bad oil cooler, gaskets, or the worse a cracked block.

Get a hold of a OBDII monitor that can read ECT, EOT, and FICMv. You want to check the delta between the ECT/EOT. Your also gonna want to check FICMv while cranking and engine running.
Write down the VIN and get a Oaisis report and carfax. The Oasis will tell you everything that has been covered and replaced when it was in warranty. Their are plenty of posts on here about what to look for when buying a 6.0, read up to get knowledge. Here is some reading material for you.
