Electrical voltage issue

My truck is an 06 f-350. My battery light will ficker randomly on rare occations. So I have been watching the voltage on the insight and it will touch the 12V range sometimes. I dont think it has touched 12.5V. I pulled the alternator off and that Passed. The batteries are good.
I then took the truck to autozone to have them test the vehicle and it came up with -Voltage regulator diode failure- Im not sure what that means.

IIRC, it means your internal voltage regulator is shot. When my upper alternator took a dump, it put out 12v, and only 14amps. After replacing the upper unit, 13.8v and 60-80amps at idle depending on the demand.

Yup, regulator is internal to the alternator. Time to upgrade.

That is odd because I took it off to get tested 3 times and it passed. I will start searching for a new alternator. thanks guys!

The diode prevent reverse current flow, battery drain. the light on my 7.3 flickers, it is the alternator plug that is worn from vibration. Its been like that for some time.
