oil change interval?

i ordered some Hotshot secret oil supplement today. The guy there said his customers use 5w40 synthetic oil and change there oil every 10,000miles ! what is the common oil change interval for 5w40 synthetic oil?
currently i am using 15w40 rotella, truck is stock and has 101,000miles original everything, except BPD oil and egr cooler, BPD radiator, cat removed turbo back exhaust, stock tune.

I just bought that Hotshot stuff a few weeks ago and was told to use 10w30. I fine that my morning starts are good now but once the engine is warm, it is really hard to start. Been told by a few people now to change back to 15w40 because the 10w30 was to thin. So that is on my hit list soon unless someone can tell us for sure that it's ok to have different oil then what is recommended from the manufacture.

Send a message via AIM to Galaxie
People can tell you what they change at and give you their thoughts....Doesent mean a thing. Get your oil checked to see what your motor is doing. My motor per analisis likes 7200 in the winter and 6700 in the summer (more towing).

You should be able to get 6500-7k out of a good synthetic. I wouldn't try 10 without UOA reports at 5k and 7500.

10w30 shouldn't cause you any hard start problems. I hhave run Amsoil 5w30 through the summer without any such drama

I just do changes at or about 5K because I don't want to worry about dealing with pulling samples for analysis.

I do keep meaning to send a sample in though, just to see how things are looking at that point

Oil Samples

Sorry guys, I'm new to this type of engine! First time I've owned a full size truck, first time for a diesel! Had it for 3 weeks, 137,000 miles on it, runs great, but i want it to run a long time!
to the point...
Where do you find someone to test your oil??
I've never heard about it till i started doing research on this engine!
Thanx!
