2500 mile haul with a 5k trailer and loaded truck
Ok guys, here's what's up. I have an 06 powerstroke longbed with 115k on it. It is bone stock except for an edge ezf2000 computer module. It's a 30/45/60 gain. Trucks running great but does blow off some coolant at higher rpms. Cap changed, coolant flushed, no blown head gasket. Fresh oil, etc. shop doesn't know whats up but I didn't want to pay a ton of labor for something they may or may not find and or fix. Any ideas? What kind of mods do I need to make this truck bulletproof for this kind of haul. Egr delete? Gauges? Mag hitecs? Coolant bypass filter? Let me know what you would do. Thanks. Brad.

If you're blowing coolant you have a problem. Dump the ezf2000 and get an Edge Insight CTS or CS for monitoring things. Delete the egr system if you can. Coolant and oil bypass filters are good ideas. 5w40 Synthetic oil is another good idea. Once it is all sorted out get a SCT X3 with some custom tunes for daily driving and towing.

I don't like the sct's it was blowing coolant before the edge. I run 15 40 but will run 5 40 next change

Like said before if your blowing coolant you have a problem whether its a partially clogged EGR cooler or what is uncertain. You could try egr delete and see if it still does it but good chance the damage is done. The SCT with Innovative tunes is one of if not the best tuner for the Fords. But also there is no such thing as Bulletproofing a 6.0l or any engine for that matter. You can fix known problems but if not taken care of something else will break.

It is either EGR cooler, blown head gaskets, or cracked heads. Do an EGR delete, get a scantool or CTS and pray. I would bet that it started as an EGR cooler/oil cooler failure, but now is everything because these things go downhill Quickly if not repaired correctly(been there done that on two trucks, thankfully under warranty).
