2004 6.0 fx4. Need some tips!
I just aquired a new to me 2004 (made in 2004) F250 Lariat FX4 with the 6.0
I went out on a limb here knowing that the 6 ohs have their fair share of problems. The truck has 92000 miles and is completely stock. Just had its 90000 miles service and a new injector pressure sensor put in at the dealership. I am new to diesels so what im asking from you guys is what can i do to make sure my truck runs for a long time without having to fork out for head gaskets or a new engine etc... Thanks, Jordan |

First of all, read the sticky, what 6.0 owners should know, and get a gauge system like the Edge insight.
Use only motorcraft or racor filters, flush coolant if it's not done, check your FICM voltage, and fuel pressure. I know there's a lot more, but that's off the top of my head. BTW, congratulations on the new truck! |

He is talking about the first link in my signature. Read that, get a monitoring solution in place and find out what kind of shape the truck is in before doing anything else. Once you have a handle on the current condition we can make more suggestions.
Run a good 5w40 synthetic oil, Racor or Motorcraft or Fram filters. All 3 are actually Racor filters in different boxes. Flush the cooling system and put a Cat EC-1 Rated ELC coolant back in. Delete the EGR system if you can, if you can't install a Bulletproof Diesel egr cooler. Be meticulous in your maintenance. Let me say that again. Be meticulous in your maintenance. Take care of your 6.0 and it will take care of you. They are actually damn good motors if you treat them right. oh yeah,
