High coolant temp
Yesterday towing about 11k trailer I hit about 228 degrees on my coolant temps several times. I was going up long climbs , but it has never done this before. Outside temp was 75, very odd. I checked everything when it cooled down, coolant was a little low, but right at the min mark. I added some distilled water. Any thoughts?

The thermostat is new about 6 months ago.

Another thing, I noticed the fan not sounding as loud as normal.

If the coolant temp was 228* I think the fan should have been "full on". Should sound like a jet engine... Maybe the fan clutch is getting a little weak.

That's what I was thinking, I know the sound and it wasn't loud like that. no puking.

I have seen coolant temp that high while towing, AC on and 100* ambient air temp. It was not my truck, but I have seen the ECT that high...
When the ECT was 225* the fan was full on loud! |

Is there a way to test the clutch fan? I only have 45,000 miles on the truck, I would hate to think it was bad already.

Check for codes... With the IDS or NGS you can run a fan test, or a KOER test and it will check the clutch operation.
The other way would be to have the scan tool hooked up and watch fan speed and duty cycle while under those same conditions. |

What is IDS or NGS? I dont see a fan speed on my insight to watch it. I don't see any codes.

Can someone tell me what these tests are, can I do them or dealer?
Thanks |
