actualy all the guys that are ford loyal but want to get Huge power gains do the cummins swap.

theirs a company called Destroked that specializes in cumins/ford swaps But if you have much mechanicle ability and have acces to a good shop with good tools you could probly do the swap fairly simply with out buying a bunch of expensive parts. the 12 valve cummins is all mechanicle so it would actualy be easier to swap in than the powerstroke because of the lack of electronics. (the new v6 will be an electricle nightmare)
plus the 12 valve is dirt cheap to modify compaired to the other diesels Money spent vrs power gained that is.

Never heard of that before. Gotta think on that one for awhile. I'm still liking that V6 Powerstroke idea. How long can that 1/2-ton F150 frame handle that much torque out of the Cummins? Gotta give 'em some props on that one... the 5.9 Cummins as a beast!

I dont think the frame would be an issue the axles probly wouldnt last long if you hopped up the 12 valve much.

Just found a forum off of Destroked.com. Someone on there is trying the 5.9L Cummins conversion into his F150 and found it too much of a hassle... too much power for the 1/2-ton. Money would have to be dumped into beefing suspension and axles. Basically, this is a project better suited to a 3/4-ton or bigger. Instead he's going for a smaller 4-cyl. Cummins.
I also have a '91 Ranger. Recently took the engine (2.3L) out of it. My current plan is a 4.0L swap. Know of any small diesels that would do good in this project?

only problem with the 4cyl cummins swap is there kinda hard to find.
that would be a sweet motor in the little ranger. guys are putting the 4cyl cummins into jeeps but even the 4cyl has so much torque it destroys the factory drive train as well... thats the problems with any diesel in a light duty vehicle. I imagine that the new ford v6 diesel is going to have more torque than a 12 vavle cummins.

I still think the 12valve 5.9 wouldnt be that bad in your F150. esp if you found a compleate donor truck. if you pirated the rear end, tranny, and engine, out of the dodge plus any thing else you needed to mix togather you could do the swap prety easily. im thinking you could find a totaled first gen cummins truck for less than 2-3 grand.

and yeah that swap is basicly taking a ford body and putting a dodge drive train in it but ive always loved the ford body and i never have and most likely never will own any thing other than a ford. but i dont always agree with some of the engines that the trucks come equipt with Esp. the 80-early90's gassers.

Well, I guess it's worth more research, at least. I wanna see some numbers and figures from the new V6 before I go one way or the other. Gotta find a better job first... Won't be doing any project of that magnitude at $16 p/hr.
