Ball Joints and Axels
Ok a few months ago I had to replace both upper and lower ball joints on both sides on my truck. I took it to a diesel shop in Marion Indiana called paiges diesel. They seemed like a good shop...easy to get ahold of and seemed knowledgeable. Well the other day I had a different shop do install a bulletproof oil cooler in my truck, when i went to pick it up he asked about a popping noise when you turn the wheel. He put it on the lift and he was able to lift up on my passenger side rim. We looked and the lower ball joint was only hand tightened!! He informed me that the axels are cast and very soft so driving it a few months could have ruined my axel. He tightened it and torqued it, he then went ahead and tried to grease them for me but none of them would take grease and he said that was also a problem. He then informed me that the aftermarket ball joints have grease serts and factory doesn't...well thats when he showed me that i only have 3 aftermarket ball joints and 1 factory. I pulled out the receipt and showed him that they charged me for 4 ball joints... I know i need to go talk to them, is there anything i can do if my axel is ruined because they didn't install a ball joint correct?

Really you should talk to the shop before you bash them on the internet...just sayin'.

Looks to me like he's asking a bout his axles more then bashing them...

I would also talk to the shop, but if your receipt says you paid for 4 ball joints and you only have 3 installed, that's a BIG problem. Hopefully they have a reasonable explanation.

Maybe they could only get 3 aftermarket ball joints and had to buy one from Ford.

Exactly what i was thinking. Its unlikely the shop is able to to anything since you have already had the issue fixed. I would have brought it to their attention before having another shop fix it. I know this sound un reasonable but, considering most shops warranty(fine print) states warranty repair must be performed by their shop and cannot exceed original cost of repair. Its unlikely that your axle is damaged as iv seen both upper and lower ball joints near falling out and no damage had occurred. |
