An '03 without the intake butterfly thingy?
So I decided to take that flap out of my trucks intake. I took it apart and found out there's nothing there. Weird. The motor's there but no shaft or butterfly.
My truck's an '03. built April of 03. I thought all '03s had that pos. Any ideas why mine doesn't? Oh well, made that job easy! |

both 03s and 04s have a throttle body but the 04.25+ is the only one that actually uses it.

Lol, literally just 10 minutes ago I was gonna do the same to mine while cleaning the EBP and same result. Not even machined for the shaft the blade is mounted on. Mine's a March '03 build.

Weird. Why did they do that? Would April be considered a "late" build or is it in the middle or what?

they did it because EGR flow wasn't actually required for federal emissions standards until 2004(remember 02 built 03s still had a 7.3). The 6.0 was pushed out early and the technology on the engine was a little before it's time.
03s use much less EGR flow than the later engines, same reason they had to redesign the cooler after a year. |

Mine is an August 03 build and always wondered why it wasn't there. This clarifies that.

Mine is a 12/2002 build and it does not have it either.
