Intake manifold heat shield

I am putting everything back together after an oil cooler and EGR upgrade.
I cannot for the life of me remember how the heat shield goes back onto the manifold. Its about 12" long by 4" wide with a crease and some other bends in it.I labeled it left side and marked the studs (as opposed to the bolts) and nothing lines up?

On a worse note my 2003 EGR cooler had about a dozen small pencil sized tubes in it as opposed to the sinister 6 big holes. Was this already upgraded by the P.O.? I feel like this was all for nothing.

you marked it left side but did you actually mean the passenger side? that's where it goes.

Also the 03 cooler doesn't have a high failure rate like the 04+ coolers. The internal tubes were found to be much more reliable but not as efficient as far as cooling goes. The 04 uses much more egr flow than the early engines and it needed a cooler that could dissipate heat.

Probably but I still cannot find the mounting spots that match up. Anyone with a picture?

The mounting spots are the intake bolts. When you took it apart, you should of took pics/note of which bolts went where. The bolts will have a stud on top so you can slide the heat shield onto the studs and use a nut to hold the shield. Their will also be other bolts with this stud, their will be one needed on the driver side, in the back by the FICM because their will be a ground wire that gets one of these stud bolts. IIRC, their is one more that has a stud top, it's for holding down the wire harness.
