CA Diesel Guys...

Ok, I just straight piped my truck last Sunday, today I get a call from the dealer saying that the DMV is not honoring the smog cert!

My question is, when you've got your smog check have you seen them actually look under the truck to check for a cat?

I know the guy by me looks kinda lazy like he wouldn't want to bend over and check. Should I try to wing it?

Had to smog mine in CA last spring. Went to the nearby gas station with auto repair shop. Guy followed the test requirements to a tee and rolled underneath with a creeper to check the exhaust. Did take him a bit to find the EGR valve though

Also, consider the fact that your 6" lift and assumed to be larger tires arent exactly making it harder for the smog tech to take a peek underneath your truck....

The truck needs a catalytic converter installed in order to pass. Like stated above they have to visualy inspect the egr valve also. Only a matter of time before smog tech's know to look for a missing egr cooler also.

Just make sure you "know a guy".

That's what I was afraid of... Well my cat is already hollowed out so I ordered a MBRP muffler delete and I'm going to weld my stock cat into it to make it removable with the two flared ends. Thanks for the insight guys. I hate California!

i just smogged my 6.0 yesterday, im also in cali, yeh I put my cat on, and just open exhaust just so they can see it, literaly , just cat and nothing after just so I can swap my 5" exhaust the minute I got home after passed, I have sct and put it on stock tune, and also shut egr off because I have egr delete. And it passed, If your from riverside, you need to go into the city were all the mexicans are ( nothing against mexicans, im mexican myself ). These guys work on nothing but small cars or gas engines, so they dont know **** about diesels, thats what i did, the tech called me over to inspect truck with me, piece of cake. all they want is easy $ for a little of what it takes to smog your diesel.
