Head and Machine shop question

Do I need to split the upper and lower parts of the heads before taking them to the machine shop? If I do, do they require gaskets to re-assemble or just RTV between them?

yes there is a rocker box gasket and it's designed similar to a valve cover gasket on a car. you should take the rocker boxes off before taking them in, they do have to come off to check the heads
