SCHAFFER OIL, ANYBODY USING IT ???
Just wandering if anybody is using schaeffer synthetic oil??? I've goit a local shop here in town pushing it , saying lots of good things about it. One guy has a 2008 dodge, with over 28,000 miles on the oil, with 2 bottles of rev-x additive. Sent in a test sample, and they say keep running it. What do you think. Let me know?? Thinking of using it myself.

Extended oil change intervals are unwise with the 6.0L.

I've never used it simply due to availability. But I've got two friends that do and they seem very happy with it in their Powerstrokes. One guy had been running it in his 7.3 since it was new. Had some catastrophic failure internally and had to have his engine torn down at like 250k miles. The tech here locally said it was one of the cleanest engines he'd ever been into. Even at that mileage. I'd love to try it if I had it more readily available to me.

I have run Schaeffer 9000 and got elevated lead numbers with it after as little as 3000 miles. The lead dropped to normal when I stopped using it. The virgin oil sample did not contain any lead.
Check out BITOG for more info (others experienced the same thing). Lots of injector issues with frequent oil changes, let aloe folks trying for more than 7500m - JMHO. Also, the Scaheffer 9000 never did carry the API certification. Their 15W40 did, but not their 5W40. Last edited by bismic; 03-04-2012 at 06:04 PM. |

That's unfortunate. What do you run bismic? I'm thinking of switching to 5w40 Mobil 1 next change.

What do you think about 5w40 ester Redline, Bismic? $45 a gallon is harsh but I would def like to try it out. Was surprised to read on the page that it is popular in turbocharged applications. Never heard of anybody with a 6.0 use it tho?

I have run the Motorcraft 15W40, Schaeffer 9000 5W40, Rotella T6 5W40, and now Mobil 1 TDT 5W40. Nothing wrong w/ the Rotella, but I like the Mobil 1 a little better, but will know more after a couple more oil changes.
$45 per oil change is WAY steep. Worth searching to see if any reviews are out there. Edit - I also ran a few oil changes with the Valvoline PBE. Last edited by bismic; 03-04-2012 at 07:57 PM. |

Skip the shaeffers, esp in a higher mileage truck and its not worth the cost, it cost me lost of money trying to get rid of the stiction it magnified in my truck. I run val extreme blue or t6.

Thanks for the info guy's. I used to run 15w-40 rotella, untill i had to replace my injectors due to stiction issues, after the injector replacement, i tried the castrol 15w-40, and had higher soot content in the oil than rotella, so i finally just started using the motorcraft 15w-40, with rev-x additive, and have ran the oil a lil over 9,000 miles once before, and the oil was just like clean dark honey. Ive never ran it that hi before. The motorcraft is doing good for me, guess i'll keep on using it. My truck just turned 138,000. ive been running this oil for about a year now.
