California Fords? Anything special if you do EGR delete?
Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between a cali truck compared to any other 6.0. Just wondered when I took it to the shop the other day and it popped up on there computer. Will I need a programmer to get it to run correctly without the EGR system (it currently does not)?

Should not have any issues from deleting the EGR on a '03 or '04, as far as I know the was no differences with the California trucks.
May get the CEL on the '05 and up from insufficient EGR flow which can be eliminated with a custom tune |

It will throw the code but does it set a check engine light? that may be the difference with an early truck. If it is setting a light that may be because it is california emissions.
The way I understand it is that a code signifies a specific problem but the light should only illuminate if the problem can cause emissions levels to exceed 1.5x the regulated amount. Since 03s didn't actually need EGR to pass federal emissions standards any EGR related dtc may not set a check engine light. California may be different however, not sure about that one I know many 03s that have run with the valve unplugged. It won't set a light but DTCs will still be stored in the PCM |
