Pre fuel pump filter question

Would it be a good idea to use an inline fuel filter pre fuel pump as an extra means of cleaning the fuel. Is the stock fuel pump capable of pulling fuel through it? Would it be best to use a water stop or non water stop type, Thoughts, good, bad or otherwise?

Why do you want to add another? If you were talking about building your own fuel system it would be good but it just seems pointless and a lot of extra work to add another on the stock system.
