Heavy Rust On Exhaust Manifold....
So I was under the truck today marking out my spot to put the EGT thermocoupler and I noticed I have a severe amount of rust on my exhaust manifold. It may just be surface rust, but it is to the point where it flakes off if i run my fingers over it.
Is this normal for these to rust in this area? Should I be concerned about manifold rusting through or is it probably just surface rust? I see know holes in manifold anywhere. Lastly, is it worth trying to clean up at all with wire brush etc? Thanks as always for the help!! |

It's normal and no it will not rust thru. It's just surface rust as due to the nature of diesels and the protective layer of soot it only rusts externally. If you don't like the rusty look get them ported and ceramic coated.
