Question Turbo Silencer Ring?

I have heard of guys removing this Silencer ring to enhance turbo whistle? Has any of you done it? What do u think about it? Is it bad for anything? Any advice would be great. Thanks so much

I have read about that and i think its only on the 03 turbos where it just pops out and on the newer ones you have to machine it out because its cast into the housing....Im not a tech so if im wrong someone please correct me...Hope that helps...

I have an 03 turbo, and my silencer ring has to be cut out. Below is a picture of my 03 turbo. I decided to not do mine and got a 3.5" downpipe and cat delete and it whistles VERY VERY LOUD!!

it is actually pressed in there.
when we run the big 88-92mm (yes big) turbos on our drag cars they come with the expansion chambers for the diesels, and we actually have to machine those rings ourselves out of billet and press them in.
i see no reason to take it out just for sound, seems like a lot of work, i'm actually suprised they have one in them, since the diesels usually come without the rings ..
weird...

so would there be any negative results to removing it? Or is it there to quiet the sound a bit?

I was told by Marc not to take it out. Think I remember him saying something about messing with boost.

the original reason the rings were not there is that there is an expansion chamber that was originally there to prevent compressor surge...
