Question about an SCT Tuner...

A local guy has an SCT Excallibrator 2 for sale and I was thinking about picking it up. He told me that the unit has been locked and needs to be unlocked somehow. Problem is, he is under the impression that the custom tunes, which he says are very good, and all of the standard tunes will be erased. Is there a way to unlock it without erasing all of the existing info/tunes on the machine. If not, then I will need to look elsewhere.

Why can't he unlock it for you? Where is the vehicle its locked to?

To unlock a device (locked meaning- the device has an uploaded tune on another vehicle that is still in use) it WILL need to mailed to SCT headquarters in Florida and you will have to pay around $250 (not 100% sure) to have it unlocked. Its not a quick process.

In some case like mine, I sent in insurance info that my old truck was in an accident and ruled a total loss. SCT unlocked mine for free and mailed it back to me.

Once its unlocked your good, but the custom tunes on there most likely will not work on your truck. You will have to use the SCT to get info from your truck then send that to a custom tune writer to make the tunes compatible with your truck.

Buying a new one with custom tunes would be less aggravation and quicker if you ask me.

Thanks guys. I ended up calling them and they said it would be around $100 to unlock it and then I would need to get a custom tune from a vendor. I will probably just purchase a new one because that does not include the cost of the unit itself.

The seller sold his truck and he said that it had an awesome tune for a stock truck. He was pulling a 10K pound gooseneck and I will be pulling slightly less weigh at around 8K. I will have to do some reading before I go any further.
