6.0 fuel stand pipe

2004 6.0 i found the top off the fuel stand pipe broken off and inside the filter on the motor. Will the truck run with this broke ?

this thing is making me nuts it will run fine for a few weeks then it wont start get it towed in to shop starts right up . they keep it for a few days no problems take it home then it dose it again.

I am not sure if the broken part will cause this or not its part # 3c3z9t289aa

please any info would be great. I cant afford to keep taking it for tow truck rides
