direction of cat

Does anyone know if it matters which direction the cat goes? I have to re install it for smog just wondering if anyone can look at theirs and tell me if the writing that says ford and the part numbers are on the left or right side of the truck, thanks for any help

well when i got my truck it was just stock exhaust with a cat so i had the cat removed and it was just stock exhaust straight piped. They didnt un bolt the cat to remove it they just sawzalled it on each side and welded a pipe up there so I dont have the whole cat bolt on section its just the cat cut off on either side

Well, thats sucks. Let me go out and see if I can tell which way, if any, it would need to be. Mine is spending time on the shelf.

Just went and took a look.

When I hold the cat to read the numbers, the first number is toward the engine, last number to rear of vehicle.
