I am in the middle of putting my egr cooler back on so I can get my truck smogged and am having trouble lining up the y pipe to the turbo. I loosened the bolts from the up pipe to exhaust manifold and the y pipe to exhaust manifold on drivers side but the y pipe does not wiggle at all. I already have the v band clamp on the up pipe to the egr cooler do I need to take this off and put it on after I get the turbo lined up? Thanks for any help
At work after a turbo cleaning the mechanic couldnt get the up pipe to seal on the turbo. He ratchet strapped around the turbo and the up pipe and brought them in together. He left the bolts loose on some of the piping and clamped the up pipe to turbo first then worked his way down with the ratchet strap still in place.
Your not the only one where the pipes barely move, some are real floppy and some feel like that flex part doesnt do squat.
I wedged a breaker bar behind the y pipe and pulled on it while my buddy was underneath pushing the drivers side up pipe, UP! Lined up perfect have someone push it for you, I couldnt get it myself tried for 2hrs he came over we were done in 5 mins
Try loosening up the turbo too. That'a what I did, you then have more things you can wiggle to line up easier.
