04 f550 few questions
Test drove an 04 550. I have a scan gaugeII and the ect eot numbers stayed within the 15*. What caught my attention was 1, the white smoke billowing out the exhaust and the drop in power under full throttle. 33psi, it was at about 35 mph... Head gaskets I assume. Second was the fuel milage. at 60, flat road, 40* exterior temps, empty... it was getting 4-5 mpg... I have never driven a 550 before. Is that a typical mpg for that truck?
I expected atleast 10mpg. Even downhill with no throttle it was reading 14 max. Thanks. If I missed something with my search for this let me know. |

White smoke- what did it smell like, fuel, or coolant.
Fuel could mean a stick injector, coolant could mean failed EGR cooler. These two could also give you a lack of power, so will a stuck open EGR valve. |

With it running I walked around back and it had that sweet coolant smell.

That sounds like the EGR cooler has failed.
