6.0 purchase

I've done a ton of reading here and on other forums about the 6.0, I found a very nice 06 f350 lariat with 99k on the clock. The truck is at a local ford dealer and was a local trade in. The truck has a extensive service history at the dealer and has had just about every common 6.0 problem fixed under warranty, heads, head gaskets, egr, egr cooler, turbo seals, ficm.. They are asking 23k for the truck and have dropped the price to 20k tax included to drive it off the lot.
My only concern is with all the parts that seem to have been thrown at the truck, I know some of these trucks just have issues, would it be worth getting a extended warranty on the truck with this type of history? Or worth buying at all? I drove the truck for over an hour and crawled over every last inch of the truck looking for leaks or any other issues and I really can't see anything else. The truck ran flawless and started easily, truck was stone cold when I went to start it and also fired back up with just a touch of the key when hot. I'm not new to diesels but the tainted past of the 6.0 has me leary of making the purchase. Any more info would be great

My experience with buying at a Ford dealer was a good one. Maybe I just got lucky on the truck. What I learned was that they have a really good extended warranty that can be added if the truck is STILL under the factory 100K warranty. Remember it can be out by either mileage OR by time. The time is based on the delivery date of the truck. As an example my truck was delivered July 4, 2006. I got it July 13, 2011 and it was out of warranty even though it had less than 90,000 miles on it. I looked at the warranties available and didn't feel like any were a good deal based on the cost to purchase vs. the short duration of the warranty. The price you quoted sounds about right for the mileage in my part of the country. Hope this helps.

Ford only extended warranty, not after market ones from other sellers.

The warranty they quoted me was 1600 for a 3 yr or 125k miles,From ford not aftermarket. I don't drive my own vehicle more than 10k per yr, but from what I've seen just one major failure and the warranty will have paid for itself

your looking at a 06 which is the well improved 6.0 as they got better the longer they were out, you have everything that goes wrong fixed i dont see why you shouldnt buy this truck. if you have the extra cash i would definatly pay the 1600 and get the ext warranty.
