Parkingb for extended periods.

Even though I've made it to 'shore duty', I still have to make a deployment once a year for about three months. I've read here on the forums that it's not good to let these engines be parked for extended times, that it is bad for the turbo. Is there anything I can do to minimize the effects or to get it 'ready' to sit for three months while I'm gone?

I always change the oil before I deploy whether it's due or not. I disconnect the battery while I am gone so that it wont go low in cooler weather and kill the battery. I also dump some Sta-bil in the tank before I leave and then go to a gas station and top off the tank when I get back. Is there something more, different, or better that I should do for the diesel engine?

Thank you for your service.

Mine had to sit 3-5 months at a time for almost 2 years while I was at work. I never did anything special other than cap off the exhaust regardless if it's stock or straight piped or what have you. This will prevent moisture or debris in the system as well as keep anything away from the turbo. IMO ditch the stabil. DieselKleen makes a diesel specific additive that prevents gelling, algea and helps maintain fuel quality. On that note keep the tank full while stored, that in itself prevents gelling or algea. Batteries, keep high quality ones in your truck. Disconnecting them will be fine. Remember a low charge and a cold start will fry your FICM.
