My '06 F250 Super Duty 6.0L blew out the radiator about two miles into a pretty good grade. The top plastic tank actually cracked, and I'm wondering if this is a normal case of failure or could the cause be too much pressure in the cooling system do to something else, like the turbo or ? The motor didn't get hot but made a mess all over the windshield. I patched the radiator with J-Weld covered the water tank with duct tape to avoid pressure build up and eased it home with no issues, again didn't get hot.

I doubt it was caused by too much pressure, the cap will bleed off excess pressure over 16 psi.
I've not heard about that many failed radiators (read about some but not that often). Even with all the guys (including myself) that have had blown head gaskets that over pressures the cooling system, I don't think I've heard of any that also blew the radiator because of it. BPD (Bullet Proof Diesel) sells an all aluminum replacement radiator as well as Mishimoto |

Cracked Radiator
It was odd, one second I'm fine the next I have water spewing from the top tank like you can't believe? Maybe the cap failed, who knows. I'll try the replacing the radiator and go from there.
Okay, thanks for the help and I will look into the all-aluminum version for my truck. |
