Cummins in new Fords?

I was chatting with an old timer about diesel while fueling today. He mentioned something about cummins engines going in Fords. I told him about the 6.7 being ford made and they just started in 2011 so I didn't think anything of it. Then I got to thinking as I was headed back home... I know the 650's and up have cummins in them but has any talk been made of the smaller trucks getting them?

Doesnt Ford own the rights to the cummins engine and just have a contract with Dodge to let them use it? Dont hold me to that, might be a huge rumor....but seems like i remember hearing that somewhere

thats what i'v heard ford has rights to the cummins motor. i do know the cummins shop in commerce city ,co will not do any warranty work, must go to dealer.

Ford used to own stock in Cummins but that is it. No rights to motors or anything of that sort. The Ford/Cummins rumor has been around for 10+ years.

No truth what-so-ever to the Ford/Cummins relationship other then the fact the Ford owned some (not even close to controlling interest) cummins stock back in the 80's. They sold it out even before Dodge began using the 6BT as it's diesel option. There was also a rumor a few years ago that the new Ford diesel was going to be a caterpillar motor to get away from navistar.

I've seen this rumor floating around this site at least 100 times over the years... Just sayin'.

Our 650 at work has a Caterpillar engine it in, runs good but its a dog most of the time...

You can order the F-650 & F-750 with a cummins, but now we're talking 5-tons, not the 1-ton pickups we drive.
And the cummins-ford rumor has been around forever and it's false...
