Looking at this truck...
Okay, so I'm looking at this work truck. It has the 6.0L, which I'm very fond of.
It's a 2007, and it's kinda beat up, but it'd be fun to play with. This is what the owner said: "It had a leaking hose going into the degas tank. Ran it low on coolant and got it hot. Still runs. Pushing exhaust into coolant." Do you think it's just a ruptured EGR cooler? Or are the HG's gone? If it's just the EGR and oil cooler, I'd like to buy it, fix it and delete it, tune it, and have a fun work truck... Maybe take it to the track just for fun! ![]() Anyways, I could pick it up for around $1,500. |

1500 bucks-I'd buy it regardless. Where are you located?
As far as pushing coolant, if he ran it like that, I'd expect to replace the headgaskets regardless of what the problem was initially. |

1500. Buy it and figure it out in spare time! Heck buy it and shoot holes in it if you have to!
Over heated. Cold be egr to craked head. Tear into it! |

For $1500 you have to make a post?? Grab it up!!!

What signs should I look for to determine if it's just a bad EGR or the headgaskets?

There are some good write ups about pressure testing the cooling system. Just do a search at the top.

I would just go ahead and pull the heads, but I don't have the tools or equipment to do so. The most I could tear into would be down to the EGR/oil cooler.
