before i order head gaskets and studs ......
are the ford ones still the go to part, or is there something better? i know the b.o. are crap.

ANY egr cooler delete kit that includes the up-pipe will suffice and work just fine.
OEM gaskets only. Send the heads out to be checked, rebuild as necessary and milled flat. You can't remove more than 0.007 to achieve flat or the head will have to be replaced. Have the engine block sealing surface checked as well.
