On vacation and blowin smoke

Hey all,

My family and I are in colorado at 9000 feet elevation and upon arrival I observed my 2003 6.0 started blowing black smoke when I was half throttle or more. It was not heavy black smoke but you could see it commin out the exhaust. My truck has never blown smoke before and it just makes me a little nervous at the possiblity of somthing going wrong. Does altitude have anything to do with it? I checked codes on my Insight and had two codes, EGR Insuffent flow and Fan speed circut. When we were pulling the divide with my 10k fifth wheel I was running 220 -225 ect and 230 - 235 eot. The engine fan was in lock up for about 15 min solid. As for the EGR I am not sure. I have the bullet proof egr cooler and the stock egr valve. No check engine lights or anything... Anyway just wanted to get some peace of mind that hopefully everything is okay and as soon as i loose elevation my truck should stop smoking. thanks

Sounds normal to me. Mine has a bunch more smoke at 9k feet. It is because there is a ton less oxygen. No worries as long as your EGT's are normal.
