after egr replacement odd questions???

So i just did my egr and oil cooler this week, also cleaned the turbo. I noticed a couple things that i thought were odd.

1, When cleaning out my intake the driver side of the inside of the intake was caked with soot. There were big chunks of carbon coming out. The other side came clean much easier and had no chunks. Why is this??????

2. I have noticed much less black smoke when i stomp on the skinny pedal now. I am wondering if it just runs cleaner now or do i have some type of leak somewhere and it is not hitting full power. It feels like it runs the same???
