Picked up 06 f350 today

Hello all, I have been reading the forum for awhile now and finally took the plunge and bought a 2006 F350 DRW 6.0 with 7000 miles and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been a GM man for 30 years and this truck is AWESOME!! A couple of questions and sorry if it has been covered already and i'm sure it has, How long should I let it warm up in the morning in 40 degree weather .......and I see the manual mentions an engine brake if you are in OD and trailer mode and using the brake with a load on, that the engine brake will assist in slowing down, I tried it without a trailer but didn't notice anything, can someone enlighten me on what kind of engine brake this is? Thanks a lot!! Darwin

Congrats on the new truck and welcome to the org.

As for your Engine Brake, I do not think that the truck actually has that from the factory. But by what it sounds like you are saying. Is that if your towing a trailer and you have the truck in Overdrive and you go to slow down and you turn off the over drive then the transmission acts like an engine brake. This is correct and it does help out on steep hills.

What happens is if your cruising down the road with a trailer and your in over drive. You need to stop you hit that od off button on the gear selector. The trans will shift out of over drive, which will increase the rpms. Then your placing your foot on the brake pedal and applying the brakes. What happens is the transmission slows the engine down due to the different gear ratio you are running in at the time because the transmission shifted out of overdrive. I hope that makes sense to you.

to the ORG. Congrats on the new truck. Most of the time, I make sure all my oil pressure is up, and get my seat belt and everything on, turn up the radio, and then take off.

The torqueshift has the tow haul mode. If you have in turned on, it will not go into OD and if you double tap your breaks, it will down shift for ya. Works pretty well.

engine brake is the tow haul. ford "detuned" the braking power because it is not supposed to be used in cold icy roads. well people were using it and it would lock the rear wheels up and put them in a skid. If you put tow haul on and when going to a stop light with the brakes pushed it has to read certain load and speed shedding before it will brake harder. get an SCT with custom tunes and they can do the more agressive braking.
