Buying a used 6.0 with mileage
I will be purchasing a 6.0 psd soon and have a couple questions on avoiding one with coolant and head gasket damage.
Is there an accuate method to check the ECT EOT Delta without an Edge Insight? also, Is there an effective way to check for a leaking/blown headgasket? I read once you can monitor the voltage on a sensor to watch for pulses as air gets pushed in to the coolant? Is watching the coolant pressure an accuate method and how is that done on this engine?I am an eletrician so I have fluke, o-scope, freq counter at my disposal.. I am mechanical inclined, however pulling the heads is not how I like spending my summer weekends. Help is much appreciated. |

You can put a pressure guage on the small hose that runs between the degas bottle and the radiator. I recommend you go to Youtube and watch the video's from Powerstrokehelp on this subject. Very informative stuff. Good luck.

A cheaper way to monitor EOT/ECT is via the Scangauge II. Does the same thing as the CTS only it can be purcahsed for $169 or even less if you keep an eye out.
