How long are Fluids good for?
This question is based on a time format not mileage. Example the new ELCs are good for 3 years. So how long will other fluids be good for like engine oil, gear oil, t case. For reference I have only put 2k miles on my truck since Dec 2010.

wow only 2k? I do that in a week some times.
Oil should be changed every 6 months to a year I think. And you should start it at least once a week and take a little drive. |

Trust me I try to take it out as much as I can! I have a Focus for a daily driver so I get some pretty bad withdrawals.

diffs/tcase 30k, use factory fill, oil every 5k or 6 months, coolant every 30k for ford gold |

I setup a little speadsheet that I keep track of my maintenance with. I figure if/when I go to sell the truck, I can just print it off for the new owner both as proof of what I've done but also to give them something to add to.
Anyway, I am just using mileage here, but here's what I use: Engine Oil - 5,000-7,000 miles Trans Fluid - 30,000 miles Coolant - 30,000 miles (even with the switch to ELC, I'm still gonna use this interval) Transfer Case - 30,000 miles (change it along with the trans fluid) Diffs - 30,000-50,000 Don't forget about filters with all these things.... Fuel Filters, Trans Filters, Coolant Filter (if you don't have one, GET one)... |
