are they worth the money?
how many of you have one and have extended your oil change intervals? what did you change your interval to? |

I had one, ran the full synthetic (or what is being sold as one, the Rotella T6 5w40) and didn't feel comfortable extending the drain interval beyond 5K miles. If you want to extend the interval, I highly suggest using blackstone or other lab to test your oil and have them tell you what the interval should be.

I wouldn't feel safe extending it either unless I got some feed back from blackstone... but just wondering how far some has gone with it and still fine by blackstones opion..

I have a bypass oil filter and my last Blackstone report was that the oil was GREAT, although cleanliness and usability are two different things. While it still had additive left in the oil, I am still changing the oil at 5k mile intervals. The oil is used for quite a few functions in our engine, so I want it to be as clean as possible to reduce the chance of failure of any of those parts.

so their "great" is mainly for usability? not how clean it is?

Here's my latest report and it specifically mentions my oil filter working well.

nice
I guess I'm just saying if I was to get one.. I wanna make it worth my while/money |

It might, but it will take a BUNCH of oil changes to get any type of return on your investment. I think of it more as preventative maintenance, like changing my oil at 5k intervals instead of 7.5k intervals since I tow a heavy trailer in the desert of Arizona.

i added the FS system after i lost two injectors... havent lost any since. I dont extend the interval. no real way to know if was ever "worth it" though i know it filters to like 2 microns whereas stock is 25 microns, so that is good! If your planning on keeping your truck forever i would say it is worth it.

Having said that consider that since our injection system is so heavily reliant on clean high pressure oil and injectors are so expensive bypass filtration is just good insurance. Consider that our full flow oil filters filter to 20 microns and that a bypass filter will get that down to 2 microns or less. Which would you think is better for your motor. That's a 10x or better reduction in particulate size floating around in your oil. I run a bypass filter. |
