tubo going out?
Hey guys I need your help.
I think my turbo is going out. It is smoking more and when I hit 10lbs of boost or more it makes a new wirring/whistle sound. and now when I turn it off you can hear some sound that sounds like the bearing is going out or shaft play and you can hear that in the exhaust and under the hood by the turbo. The real kicker is im 600 miles from home in Colorado, Do you think I can make it home? I don't really want to pay some dealer in denver 3k to do a stock turbo when I could just do a powermax when I get home any help is appreciated Kevin |

That is a tough one; maybe try and track down a Powermax where you are now and have it installed if at all possible before you go back home.
I recently replaced my turbo on my 2006 F250; the symptoms were blue smoking while idling and on take off, also if I would get on it a bit I would have a big cloud behind the truck. It is still under warranty but I wanted the Powermax so it cured the problem. |

Check your up pipes for black soot. Or when the truck is cold from underneath follow the pipes up and feel for air. Mine made a hell of a whislte around the turbo area. My buds 05 made more of a whirrrr sound. If you got a decent size leak your not gonna get all your boost and it will guzzle the fuel.
Just something to check also. |

Another easy way to check for a cracked bellows in the up pipes is to pop the hood and then power brake the truck for a few seconds. If there is a leak you will get black smoke under the hood on which ever side the leak is.

Could remove the air filter and intake out and check for play in the turbo shaft.
http://powerstrokediesel.dealerconne...06/EF_1364.mpg For leaks, I have put a piece of string on a stick that can reach up to areas of the exhaust and watch it wiggle at the leak points. |

I made it home!
I will check for play tomorrow in the shaft. I don't think it's a leak because I am getting a weird noise when I turn the truck off and the turbo is spooling down. Its like a rattling sound. Now it doesn't have as much power and right at 13 psi is when it makes that new whistle sound. But I will check for leaks in the up pipes. |

YouTube - ‪SLY1TYPES's Channel‬‏ Here are some vids of whats happening. I think there is something wrong with the exhaust side of the turbo. It is cycling the vanes as I can hear it and monitor the vgt cycle. Please let me know what you guys think? I want to make certain it's the turbo before I drop the money on a powermax. Also What other gaskets do I need to buy when installing the powermax? |

I spoke with Andrew at Bullet Proof and he said it was the turbo after listening to the vids..So I spoke with JC at Bullet Proof Diesel and he hooked me up with a new powermax.
