Cruise Control Issues. STILL.

My cruise stopped working while on a trip back from Yosemite with my travel trailer. I picked up and installed a new pressure switch on the brake master cylinder. Took it for a drive, and it worked, so I thought everything was good to go. I hit the brakes to disengage cruise, accelerated, and when I tried to set it again, nothing. Im wondering if the switches may be bad. The tech and parts guy at the dealership said its rare for the clock spring to go out. Puzzled.

Dealer has the clock spring for $99, and the replacement cruise switches for, **** me!, $92. Both are non-refundable. Really having a hard time deciding which route to go. Everything else works, and I have no codes or airbag light. If we were talking $20, no biggie, but $100 per........Grrrrrr.

Get behind the dash with a volt meter and test the switches one at a time to see if you're getting a voltage reading from them.

Is the cruise control also controlled / monitored by the PCM, could it possibly be a PCM problem?

Auto. No other problems. Checked EVERY fuse.

Not saying this is your problem but when mine started working intermitently i couldn't figure out what was wrong so I gave up then a year later the pcm went out and when I replaced that then the cruise worked great and has never stopped working since. The pcm was also the reason my gpr wouldn't work either.

How much did it cost you to replace your PCM, and where'd you get it from? I'm having intermittent problems, and think this could be it.

It was $500 and the only place to get them is Ford you have to give them your vin # and they order specific to your truck and its options. Kinda of an expensive maybe fix and I am not saying that is what your problem is but that is what fixed mine. Very easy to change I just plugged it in and the truck fired right up, the guys at the dealer insisted it wouldn't start unless they hooked it to their computer but it did. The reason I had to change mine was the truck died and wouldn't restart I just got lucky and that was what was making the cruise and gpr not work. My cruise would work only when it felt like it before I changed the pcm. Hope this is some help. Good luck let us know when you get it fixed kinda curious to know what the problem is.

My airbag light started coming on. Guess it's time to change the clock spring.

Sometimes my cruise controls glitch up, too...

Sometimes I'll hit the 'coast' button and it'll respond like I'm pressing the 'accel' one, and sometimes the 'off' switch won't do anything and I hve to tap the brake to disengage cruise...

I just thought it was a glitch of some kind...
