Door keypad..........

Is there a battery in the door keypad (from the factory)? Mine seems to work erratically sometimes, like a battery is low. Is it powered by the vehicle battery?

If the key pad is just about flush with the door skin, it's a factory install. If the key pad is about 1/2" higher than the door skin, it's a dealer install.

I know on the dealer install units they have a separate battery behind the key pad. I'm not sure how the factory installed key pad is powered.

I'm only going by what I've read on this site. I have the dealer installed unit according to one of the Ford techs on here.

No I don't, but you could always google it. I only researched the info just incase I ever ran into issues.

I ordered it with the truck, so it is a factory unit.

The factory installed keypad is wired into the truck. The dealer installed one is not. It's basically a key fob stuck to your door.

I'm curious about this whole thing now..... I'd have to assume my F350's is factory installed, considering the "brain box" location WAAAAAYYY up in the dash.

I have seen from different years, the keypad is in different locations. I've seen some like my '05 in FRONT of the door handle, and I've seen others (02-04ish) that have 'em ABOVE the handles.

This link shows pics of a dealer installed one, and has some info. See if this helps. (I'm on my phone, so I can't insert the link...you may have to copy and paste)
