Tranny removal and install

I'm in the process of rebuilding my tranny and wanted to get yall's opinion of what kind of labor expenses I should be looking at for pulling the tranny and installing it. I'm having it built by a guy I know for a good price. However, I had Ford pull the tranny and am going to take it back to them to install it after the rebuild. From what I have read, tranny removal and install should take a Ford tech around 4-5 hours. The dealership it is at right now quoted me at 12.5 hours. I called another dealer to get a quote and they said 6.5 hours. The way I see it, there is only one way to install a tranny and I do not think it is reasonable for them to charge me that much. A buddy of mine is a Ford/GM master tech and told me that was BS as well and it is actually illegal for them to do that. Is there any way around getting ripped off in a situation like this? I would like to resolve this in a civil manner and want to be somewhat educated on the subject before I talk to him.

the dealer can charge whatever they want but they should have given you some sort of estimate first. I think 6 hrs R&R is fair for a labor time

the torqshift practically falls out of a 6.0. It takes about an hour to get one out of a regular srw 4wd 250 or 350 that can be lifted up. obviously a little longer to pull the transfer case off
