HPOP replacment help
I posted in the motor problems section with no replies and I need to know asap so I posted here.
I think I need to change my hpop, can I do it myself? I have done egr delete and my injectors a few times, so I am alright under the hood of my Ex. Would I have to get another updated STC fitting, to get the aligning tool? Or any other special tools? And are there any other parts needed for the job? |

Most important thing is are you sure you need to change it out though. Proper diagnosis is key. Last edited by FordWake; 06-02-2011 at 08:13 AM. |

Believe it or not, if you buy a new HPOP, it comes with that damn STC fitting attached. You have to buy the updated fitting separately (or at least I had to).

I think it is on it's way out, the new IPR I just put in is closing 87% and not building full pressure under 3/4 throttle. When I got the head gaskets done we replaced the stc fitting along with new stand pipes and dummy plugs. The problem is slowly getting worse, that leads me to believe that it is the HPOP.

dummy plugs or standpipes... Havent seen to many HPOP bad on 05 and up. Seen a lot of misdiagnosis replacing perfectly good HPOP... high pressure oil leak most likely

I second a high pressure oil leak rather than the pump. Pumps are fairly robust on the 05-up.

I am biting the bullet and sending it to the shop on Monday to get looked at. At first the problem was only showing up on Looney tune but now even stock it will not build over 3700psi with 4.1V to the IPR. The more I drive it the lower the max pressure it builds goes but still starts fine while hot/warm. The HPOP was changed under warranty in 07 so hopefully I don't have to buy a new one.
I got the old explorer back together to run around town with till I can take the Ex into the shop. |

Your 04 engine will not have the infamous STC fitting.

And to add on to his post, your 04 HPOP has a higher failure rate than the 05+ pumps.
