Cracked Manifolds
Local service center did my coolant flush and once over on my 04 that has 29,000 miles. Said there were cracks in each manifold and a small hole in the exhaust just before the muffler. Said nothing needed to be done at this time and the mechanics only heard pinging/ticking indicating potential cracks. Claims they have plenty of experience with diesels and specifically the 6.0. Garage was recommended by a truck parts shop. Does this sound right and if so how can I monitor to determine if its getting worse other than listening to it. Got my CTS today as well with the EGT probe arriving later this week.

I haven't heard of exhaust manifolds having cracks in them, although I have heard of the up-pipes, y-pipes and exhaust valve seats in the heads all developing cracks in them. Up-pipes and y-pipes will be fairly obvious and you shouldn't worry about the heads until you have a problem maintaining compression. Get the hole in the exhaust buttoned up and I wouldn't worry about the rest unless you still have problems.
