Looking at a 6L, need advise
Hey all,
I own a 95 PSD so I am pretty up to date on the 7.3's. I am looking at a 06 King Ranch w 6in Lift, 315's and 168kms. Ford installed a new engine @ 159Kms. Origional owner, all service records. Truck is a friend of a friends in Alberta Canada(Non Oil Field Truck). Price $20,000.00 CDN. Is this a good price? I have seen local BC trucks of the same year, color, interior, kms, listed for aroun $34,000.00. If I do purchase it, what should I do to make the 6.0L a solid engine. EGR Delete? Oil Cooler upgrade? Could you please advise me if this is a good deal, and what needs to be done to the engine. Thanks, Ian |

I am a Alberta guy as well, 20k seems pretty good for the year. I have seen some around the 24-26k mark but have no add ons. 2 Stroker gave great advice he knows way more than me about the 6.0l. Before buying you need to know how much diff there is in EOT and ECT.
To do list: EGR Delete and rebuild oil cooler Something to monitor engine vitals Upgraded Fuel Pressure Spring Kit Banjo Bolts Coolant flush, switch to ELC, add a coolant filter Studs when they blow if they do!! Turbo drain hose STC fitting Dummy plugs CCV Syn Engine Oil (5w40) OEM Oil and Fuel Filters only!! There may be more, I am still learning. But I like my 6.0L, I will fix what ford didn't and move on. From all of my research it takes some $ to get these truck up too snuff, but then your good to go. |

It is but only a few thing are major.
EGR Delete and rebuild oil cooler - SHOULD DO ($300.00) Something to monitor engine vitals - MUST DO ($300.00 AND up) Upgraded Fuel Pressure Spring Kit - IF FUEL PSI IS LOW ($100.00) Banjo Bolts - PEACE OF MIND UPGRADE ($20.00) Coolant flush, switch to ELC, add a coolant filter - MUST DO ($100.00) Studs when they blow if they do!! Turbo drain hose - OPTIONAL ($? cheap I think) STC fitting - OPTIONAL, if replacing oil cooler great thing to do also ($? cheap I think) Dummy plugs - OPTIONAL ($? cheap I think) CCV - OPTIONAL ($300.00) The prices are ball park!! Also 1 more thing, if fuel PSI is a issue you may want to get your FICM cheacked. |
