Diesel smell in cab.
I recently bought an '06 f-350 6.0 CCLB. I've noticed that the AC smells like diesel fuel. I've checked for diesel leaks and can't seem to find any. Neither the engine compartment or the underside of the truck has any diesel odor. Anybody have any ideas of what this is and how to fix this?

You checked the Y pipe and exhaust manifolds for cracks / leaks? Sounds to me like you've got an exhaust leak that is getting sucked in through the fan.
Do you only smell it when you're driving down the road or is it there at idle? |

There is 2 vents behind the rear seat. On mine one flap does not close properly and I think it does leak in some of the exhaust fumes.
In addition yesterday I was looking where the heater fan can suck engine compartment fumes and I noticed that my plastic cover by the wipper motor has wimpy plastic push pins that alows the trim to lift and leakage in the fan area happens. This is just 2 things I observed on mine that I need to fix. |

It doesn't smell like exhaust. It smells like raw diesel. It does it at idle and while driving, and it is coming out of the AC vents. I was wondering if there is a filter that the AC draws air through that might have diesel residue on it that causes it.

Starting to wonder if I'm the only one with this problem.

I have the exact same problem, I have inspected and checked everything I can think of. Very distinct raw diesel, not exhaust. They are two completely different smells that I have been around my whole life.
I am at a complete loss where it is coming from. Smelled and checked around under the hood, nothing, under the truck, nothing. |

Your coolant is ok? I had that exact smell when my cylinder head cracked and was dumping diesel fuel into my cooling system. I hope your issue isn't that extreme...but it's worth checking.

Check your coolant for contamination for one

Is there any type of test that would show contaminates in the coolant or a distinct visual clue that fuel is present?
