Battery Wrap?

On my truck, passenger side battery only, there is a wrap of some kind (like a mini blanket) that goes around the outside of the battery. The driver's side has a hard plastic cover that surrounds the battery. Unfortunately this material is starting to shred on the fan side....so I'm needing to determine if I need to order a replacement. I'm thinking it is designed to keep the battery warm perhaps? In any case, should I replace or just yank it out?

It is to protect it from heat. Any heat shield will work.
