Strange noise... thoughts ?

I just got my 6.0 last week and I noticed that after I go wide-open-throttle and let off there is like a whistling noise. It's not the turbo from what I can tell, it almost sounds like when you shut off a vehicle when the AC is on full blast and it has a release type noise. It also does it after i've beat on it and shut it off. It sounds like a whistle or release type noise. It's not a turbo fart .

Thanks in advance, and I'm glad I found this forum.. Been doing lots of reading.

Look at the up-pipe and "Y" pipe bellows for cracks (pita). Also look over all the IC boots, especially the one coming off the turbo, known to rip holes. Might want to use a flashlight and mirror to see to back side of the pipes and boots.

Nope not like that either... I don't know what my ECT, EOT's are.. Just got the truck last week and haven't been able to purchase anything to monitor temperatures. Suggestions for that ?

The inexpensive but functional route is a Scangauge II. A higher end solution with more options is an Edge Insight CS or CST.

The sound you are describing could be pressure blowing past the degass bottle do to a clogged oil cooler decreasing coolant flow to the egr cooler causing the coolant to boil in the egr cooler and over pressurize the cooling system. The only way to tell if the oil cooler is clogged is by noting the temp delta between ECT and EOT. Over 15* difference and the oil cooler needs to be replaced. Always replace the oil cooler and egr cooler as a pair.

Try doing a search on "tea kettle" and you should find some threads about this. That is how the whistle is usually described.
