Trailer plug in question

My brother has a 2006 Chevrolet half tone when he bought his inclosed trailer he was going to run the interior lights when plugged in to his truck. When we hooked it up no lights. The dealer said that from the factory the constant power that is sent to the plug is disconnected and they have to hook it up they say it helps prevent corrosion in the plug. My question is the constant power that charges my trailer batteries when I drive already hooked up or do I have to add a fuse somewhere or get the dealer to hook it up? Sorry for the long story just wanted to make sure y'all understood my question

This was brought up last week, when you shut the truck off there is a relay switch that turns off the power to the trailer plug on the truck. Your gonna have to run cable from the battery to a separate trailer plug for power or add a battery to the enclosed trailer. I'm sure there might be a way to by-pass the relay switch, but IDK.

It should, I know on my 5th wheel when hooked up to a running truck, it charges the battery. You can check this if you have a battery meter in the camper. When not hooked up my meter reads 3/4 charged, but when hooked up running, the meter shows full charge.

I don't have to add a fuse it should be all set to go? This is set up from the factory.

you have to add the fuse, they do not come with "trailer tow charge" fuse installed when new.

at least mine didnt, and the dealer told me they dont come that way. Its under hood, its marked in owners manual so you can check. Additionally you can use a tester on your plug, simple check. its the one labeled "+"(diagram on plug cover lid)
