coolant gauge sending unit help!!

would i get an accurate reading if i ran my coolant temp unit off the coolant filter head and t'd out of the line coming out??? im having a tough time figuring out where to run my units. i have checked out the billet oil filter cap thats tapped but didnt want to buy it if not nes. anyone have any information that would help me out? thanks guys
